Coalessence
The title of this piece is a play off of the words "essence" and "coalesce". This work uses abstract imagry to explore the ways in which people eventually start to build their identity around a particular issue, topic, or vice. For artists this can be particularly salient as they are constantly pushed by themselves and others to examine what they really care about and to make art on that. For Galloway that identity-defining issue has been environmentalism and the negative effects that over-consumtion have on Nature. Other topics are suggested through the different colored objects that assemble themselves in the video that is embedded in the back of the head on this sculpture.
